Conditions for mediation

Parties participate in mediation voluntarily. As soon as they do no longer have faith in the process or the mediator the mediation can be stopped. Issues that are discussed during mediation are confidential. If the parties wish to talk to others outside of the mediation, this can only be done if all parties consent. Parties have to experience a sense of security in the case of open communication and should not fear that statements can later be used against them. In mediation the standard is that a verbal agreement is not a valid agreement; only when the agreement has been written down and signed by all parties involved, they can hold each other to these agreements. Parties themselves carry the responsibility for the way in which they wish to resolve the conflict. The mediator gives all parties room to decide on what an acceptable solution entails. Trusting the mediator is of great importance to the success of a mediation process. The basis of trust, which the parties put in the mediator, lies in his neutrality and independence. The knowledge of the design world that is present at IDIS Mediation only benefits the mediation process.
